With people for the most part staying close to home, it has decimated business for motor coach companies.
Speaking on The Jeff Andreas Show, President of the BC Trucking Association Dave Earle says most of these companies have temporarily laid off the bulk of their staff.
“We’re not talking one or two, we were talking 25 in March. These are the average employees being laid ff by companies. So 77% of companies had laid them off. By April that climbed to 92% of companies that have laid off staff and it is the bulk of their staff simply because there is no work.”
Earle says this is one of those impacts that makes sense because people simply aren’t moving around. “These are the scheduled inter-city buses, the chartered motor coaches, the seasonal work, they’re revenue is down 96 per cent.”
“How do we help support these companies restart their businesses and survive to the point that when we do move back to a state that we’re able to operate in a manner that is consistent, not only with public health guidelines but with public expectations, how do we ensure that these companies are viable and around at the time.”
