While the Federal Conservatives hopes of a full Parliament reconvening seem to be dead, our local MP would like to at least know what the Liberals financial plans are.
Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Tory MP Cathy McLeod was on the NL Morning News and was asked if she’s like to see a full federal budget.
“Absolutely a budget would be preferable but I think it’s absolutely reasonable, and we’ve all been calling for them to release an economic update,” she said.
“Something that takes everything they’ve done to date and their current projections so maybe not something as formalized as a budget but for them not to even consider an economic update to Parliament, I think that has to be done.”
She says the opposition wants to be able to look at the different ministries.
“The ability for parliamentarians to look at what each department is spending and what each minister is spending is something normally happens in committees and of course committees aren’t meeting in the normal kind of way so that’s another real gap.”
McLeod says while it is necessary for an economic update she reiterated the ability for the opposition to scrutinize what the Liberals are spending taxpayers money on is what she called absolutely essential.
