People in Kamloops will start noticing more paving going on in areas around town.
There are 11 paving projects that will be done by BA Dawson, and the city’s capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says the cost will be $4-5 million if it all gets done this year.
“That doesn’t mean just roads. It’ll mean parking lots, trails, laneways, local roads, collector roads, arterial roads. It’s all included in that,” he says.
“Obviously we had a late start. We’ve lost 20 per cent of the construction season really, which is critical for paving. But now we can work with them and we can kind of prioritize and schedule the projects based on the scope. Some are simpler than others.”
Crundwell says some projects will take a week and others could take up to four months, depending on the scope of the work.
“Projects like Barnhartvale Road where it’s just a rural road, there is no utilities. We can get in there and we can grind it, regrade it and pave it really quickly. One like Springhill Road that we have on that list, there’s a lot more utility work involved.”
The locations of paving include Columbia Street at 3rd Avenue, at 1st Avenue, at Grandview Terrace and at Notre Drive Dame, as well as on Gleneagles Drive from Glenshee Place to Glen Nevis Place, on Greystone Crescent from Van Horne Drive to Garymede Drive, on Springhill Drive from Summit to Sedona Place, on Fortune Drive, Rosehill Road, Tod Mountain Road and Barnhartvale Road from Dallas Drive to Tod Road.
