BC Health Officials announce 24 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 48 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the province to 2,597.
There were nine new cases for the period between Saturday and Sunday and another 15 cases in the period from Sunday to Monday.
There are 2,207 people have that have now recovered, which leaves 224 active cases of the novel coronavirus in BC. There are 32 people in hospital and five of those cases are in critical care or ICU. There was also one additional death announced today in a long term care home in Fraser Health.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is urging people who were at a protest in Vancouver yesterday to monitor their health conditions for COVID-19. Henry says she’s pleased to see the protest was peaceful, but reminds everyone that we are in a pandemic.
“Those who were there yesterday, you may have put yourself at risk, and you may bring that back to your home. So you need to monitor yourself carefully over the next coming days to two weeks. And if you have any symptoms at all, you need to self-isolate, you need to get tested. You need to be sure that you’re not contributing to further transmission of this virus.”
Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix both made the pledge during the daily briefing to uphold the values of diversity, inclusivity and respect and to oppose racism and hate in all forms. “Hate has no place in our province and we have said that many times through this pandemic and throughout this pandemic we must continue to show the kindness and compassion that brings us together as a community.”
