Merritt RCMP have laid charges after a significant police scene last week, which led to five people being arrested.
Tyler James Collins has been charged with five firearms offences and as well as assault with a weapon.
He is in custody and will appear in Kamloops court on June 19.
Collins, 35, is well known to police and has a criminal record dating back to 2004 in Merritt and Kamloops.
The Emergency Response Team had to be called to the home on Bann Street where the police scene happened last Thursday.
Mounties were called to 1601 Bann St., where two people lived who were believed to be involved in two recent assaults, and the man who lives there was known to police and believed to be armed.
In a short video posted at the scene, police can be heard in a loudspeaker saying, “Tyler Collins, we know you’re in there. Come out with your hands up and empty. Follow directions and you will not get hurt.”
Police arrested five people after a brief standoff, and Cpl. Derrick Francis says Mounties seized a modified shotgun, replica handguns, ammo, body armour and drugs after searching the home.
Francis says those drugs included 15 grams of fentanyl, three-and-a-half grams of crystal meth and a small amount of crack cocaine.
Police also seized drug paraphernalia including digital scales, drug packaging and cutting agents.
Merritt RCMP will be recommending further drug-related charges as well.
