The Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion gets going in the Kamloops area this week and one question is how do you do such a large project in era of COVID-19?
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Trans Mountain Corporation President and CEO, Ian Anderson said all job sites will follow the strictest of rules. “Our protocols will be such that we will have strict self declaration forms from every worker, every morning before they enter a vehicle or before they enter the work site.”
“We will be doing temperature screening of all employees and contractors every day to ensure that there’s no high temperatures being found.”
As far as what happens if a worker does show up sick, “If anybody has any symptom, even a cough or a sniffle or a sneeze, they’re going to be asked to leave the work site and self isolate.”
Anderson says the measures don’t stop there. “We’ll do contact tracing of anybody they’ve been in contact with over the prior hours or days and we will immediately institute health authorities in order to have testing done.”
He says this isn’t something news for Trans Mountain. “We’ve been, as I said, following these strict measures and protocols now for a few months at all of our work sites and we have zero instances and we’ve found that the workers and the contractors themselves have been very, very disciplined to make sure that’s the case.”
He also said the project will not be using temporary foreign workers.
Anderson added his motto is a strict, simple term to operate by and that is ‘We work if we’re safe, if we’re not safe, we don’t work.’
