A woman is in custody after a police officer was pepper-sprayed during a traffic stop near Revelstoke.
The incident happened on Sunday morning at about 9:30 a.m., when a blue, 1990s-model GMC Tracker was stopped on the Trans-Canada Highway, 20 kilometres east of town.
Police say the vehicle was stopped because of a utility trailer it was towing.
A woman officer was then pepper-sprayed by the driver, while talking to her at the window. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
At this point, a man in the passenger seat jumped out; the officer who was pepper-sprayed determined the man was a hitchhiker who was not known to the driver.
The driver then sped off, but was found shortly after, near the Giant Cedars boardwalk. Mounties say she was inside the trailer at that point, and was emotionally distraught and uncooperative. She was eventually arrested.
There was also a loaded crossbow and a knife found in the vehicle.
Police are now recommending charges against a 26-year-old woman from Maple Ridge.
