Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian has provided an update on city facilities which are slowly starting to reopen which includes making the NHL ice sheet at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre available for booking starting on June 29.
“Going to put ice into the McArthur Island Sports Centre and people will be able to start booking our fields on the 29th of June as well. All of this is predicated on you having a ready to play safety plan approved by the Provincial Health Officer for your sport organization.”
“On the 15th we’re going to expand the hours at TCC and would remind people to come ready for your workout as there will be limited locker
areas available. The following week on the 22nd, and hopefully the weather will cooperate, we want to reopen our splash parks.”
Riverside Park, Albert McGowan, McDonald Park, and Westsyde Centennial Park will reopen 10:00 am-8:00 pm daily.
Christian says there has been work going on along West Victoria Street to look at issues related to crime and the Safety and Security committee as well as a special committee on the West End has been looking at issues related to crime.
BC Housing is now providing night time security in the area, says Christian. “Kamloops RCMP continue to provide surveillance there as well as our bylaw services group. We have been working with CP Rail to do both a temporary fence as well as installation of a permanent fence between 1st Avenue and Overlander’s Bridge.”
Christian says that will stop traffic from getting onto the rail area as well as foot traffic going to the riverbank.
He also reminded people that City Hall reopened this week saying it’s had some pressures and lineups and adds that “much of the transactions that you do at City Hall can be done online.”
He says it’s trying to reserve the first two hours, from 8:00-10:00 each morning, for seniors and those requiring more time to do business at city hall. “And please be patient. We’re all learning as we go through this experience and making sure that the health and safety of our employees and the public is paramount.”
