The first case of COVID-19 has been reported at a school in B.C., two-and-a-half weeks after schools reopened.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says this case was at a school in the Fraser Valley, which has now been shut down for the rest of the month.
She did not name the school but says it was a staff member who was infected.
Henry shared that news while announcing eight new COVID-19 cases in B.C., including one new case in the Interior Health region. There are now 190 active cases province-wide, as well as 10 people in hospital and five people in intensive care.
“We have done an amazing job of bending our curve in B.C., but it is extremely unlikely that we will eradicate the virus from our communities anytime soon,” Henry says.
There were no new deaths for a sixth straight day, and just one death from COVID-19 has been reported in B.C. in the past 12 days.
