The McArthur Island boat launch in Kamloops
The City of Kamloops will reopen boat launches at Pioneer Park, McArthur Island, and Thompson Drive today, ahead of the Father’s Day weekend.
All three were closed at the end of May due to rising water levels, but the city says boaters can access boat launches as water levels recede.
However, anyone who is on the water is asked to be careful and travel slowly at idling speeds to prevent bank erosion.
At time of posting, the Thompson River west of the Overlanders Bridge was 6.971 metres high, according to real-time data from the federal government. It is slightly higher than the 6.813 metres when the boat launches were closed. However, the water level in gradually decreasing, and is down 0.269 metres in the last three days.
People are being told to stay as far away from waterways, culverts, and riverbanks as they may be unstable due to erosion caused be high-flowing water.
