
The Interior Health Authority is warning people in Kamloops about a toxic batch of cocaine that has been detected.
The warning, issued on Friday, says it has detected powdered cocaine with fentanyl and phenacetin, which is says is a cancer-causing pain reliever.
Drug users are being advised to get their drugs checked before using, which can be found at ASK Wellness located at 433 Tranquille Road.
Interior Health also advises people not to use drugs alone, and not to mix drugs and alcohol. It says anyone using drugs alone should access the Lifeguard App, which can connect them with emergency services if needed.
The drug warning will stay in place until at least June 26.
Health officials have warned of a more toxic drug supply that usual during the pandemic for a host of reasons, which it says has contributed to a record number of fatal overdoses this spring in B.C.
