As the province prepares for Phase 3 of its reopening plan, a Kamloops city councillor says its important to continue to ease into a more normal situation.
The number of cases has remained relatively low since B.C. enacted Phase 2 of its restart plan over a month ago, after the May long weekend, but speaking on the NL Morning News, Bill Sarai says there’s no reason to rush into anything.
“Only to be pulled back even further than we were. Let’s get it right the first time. Let’s slowly get on track and see how it goes forward,” he said. “They are going to be some changes made along the way, and I’m glad we’re taking it slowly.”
Like the rest of his city council colleagues, Sarai is part of Mayor Ken Christian’s task force focused on economic recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s got a focus to liaise with sport and recreation, health care, and the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA).
“As long as we keep moving forward, I’m hoping that by September or October, that we see a bit more relaxation going forward instead of just rushing out and finding out there’s an outbreak and that’s going to set alarm bells off and its going to pull us back.”
B.C. is expected to move to Phase 3 this week, which will include among other things, an easing of restrictions on travel in the province.
