Plans for a large new neighborhood expansion in Aberdeen will go to a public hearing on July 14th.
TRUE Consulting is looking to make amendments to the Aberdeen Plan. Those amendments include allowing Pacific Way to be extended to Highway 5A, adjacent to Running Horse Ranch Road near Knutsford, and allowing an elementary school to be built in the new neighborhood of Edinburgh Heights along the extension to Pacific Way.
The amendments, if approved, would also allow for a park space, and a wildlife corridor, as well as several new residential roads.
The city’s southwest sector is expected to see 43 per cent of the city’s growth between now and 2040, according to the Official Community Plan. And director of development services Marvin Kwiatkowski says Edinburgh in Aberdeen will be a big part of that new development.
“Approximately 2,550 units are projected for the southwest area. In particular for the Edinburgh area, you’re looking at about 1,600 units. So it’s a fairly large area for substantial development, over the next 20 years.”
At next month’s public hearing, TRUE Consulting is also asking to go ahead with Phase 3 of Edinburgh, for 22 new single-family homes on Bentall Drive, which would require about 2.4 hectares of land to be rezoned from agricultural to residential.
“It should be noted only a portion of the land is being rezoned at this time. Further zoning amendments will be required during subsequent phases as development unfolds in the Edinburgh neighbourhood,” the city adds in its report.
