CP Rail says it has heard noise complaints from condo owners on Lorne Street, but it indicates the concerns are out of its control.
Speaking to Kamloops city council yesterday, government affairs director Mike LoVecchio says CP Rail recognizes density has increased around its downtown rail yard, but says the corporation is not the zoning authority that allowed that.
He points out a new condo is almost done being built right next door to the existing ones.
“I candidly believe we will hear from those future residents with concerns about noise emanating from the Kamloops yard. It is an active rail yard. It will continue to be an active rail yard.”
He says the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has development guidelines available online, when it comes to proximity of development near rail yards and resolving disputes.
“It would influence new development in the City of Kamloops. They are guidelines, they are freely available online, and I would strongly encourage the city to take a look at them.”
