A contract worth more than $20 million to expand Valleyview Secondary has been awarded to Dawson Wallace Construction.
That makes up a good portion of the total project worth $34.5 million.
“The full $34 million includes the project that’s underway with the earth works, their contract. We have to buy all the interior stuff; furniture, basketball hoops, all those kind of things. There’s fees we have to pay for the building permit and all those things, so all of that makes up the $34 million,” Kamloops-Thompson School District director of facilities Art McDonald says.
Site preparation started this spring, and actual construction will start this summer, and McDonald says it will be a two-year build out, which will be finished for the start of the 2022-23 school years.
“We haven’t been delayed because of COVID. Obviously the contractors have to have COVID plans for their own staff, and all the people on site. But no, we haven’t seen any delays because of COVID yet.”
The new school addition will have 20 new classes, a new gym and multi-purpose and other new spaces, and will nearly double the school’s capacity to 1,200 students.
