Extreme Excavating will begin Stage 2 of the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main Upgrade Project on Monday. This stage will encompass Tranquille from Desmond Street to Holt Street and is expected to be be completed by the middle of September.
Crews also continue to work on stage 1 of the project from Southill Street to Desmond Street. It includes road restoration work and installing a multi-use pathway on the south side of Tranquille Road between Southill Street and Desmond Street.
A release from the city states that from July 6 to 12, the Desmond and Tranquille intersection will be fully closed to accommodate the installation of the new sewer main through the intersection. All vehicle traffic on Tranquille between Southill and Holt will be detoured via Greenfield Avenue. There will be exceptions for local traffic.
Access to the Brock Shopping Centre and Desmond Street businesses and residences will be from Desmond Street and Transit will be rerouted to Greenfield and Sunnycrest Avenues. Bus stops will need to be temporarily relocated.
From July 13 to about the middle of August, eastbound traffic on Tranquille from Desmond to Holt will be allowed, but all westbound traffic will be detoured via Greenfield Ave.
Officials state that “while every attempt is made to reduce the impact on businesses, residents, motorists, transit users and pedestrians during construction, delays and congestion are inevitable and should be expected. Commuters are encouraged to consider using alternate routes or other modes of transportation, such as transit, cycling, or walking.”
