One of the members of the mayor’s task force on economic recovery says there have been good discussions so far on how Kamloops can bounce back from the pandemic.
Tom Dickinson, the board president of Venture Kamloops, say there are ways to better position our local economy.
“One thing is the switch to IT is a very big area that we’ve been interested in. In particular, the areas having to do with data centres and information distribution sources. And being able to use the fact that we have a huge capacity because of BCNet, to be able to communicate with the world.”
On the other hand, Dickinson says the pandemic has shown that supply chains can be vulnerable, and says supply chain management will be important going forward.
“One thing we saw with toilet paper, yeast and everything else in the world, supply chains are somewhat vulnerable now. When things get backlogged and we can’t get access and we can’t get delivery of things.”
Dickinson says Kamloops is a hub for supply chains in several ways which makes management even more important to us locally.
