The Kamloops Blazers have signed forward Luke Korte to a standard WHL player agreement, just over two months after he was drafted by the team in 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
“We are excited that Luke and his family have committed to the Kamloops Blazers organization,” said GM Matt Bardsley. “He is an exciting player to watch who uses his high hockey sense along with skating and puck skills to be an offensive threat. He has the ability to make players better.”
Korte, a Saskatoon native, spent the 2019-20 season with the West Vancouver Warriors in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, where he had 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points in 28 games.
Drafted 52nd overall in the third round, he will spend this season with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, a program which boasts alumni including Connor Zary as well as signed Blazers prospects Logan Bairos and Tye Spencer.
“We were all really excited. We’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization, and we couldn’t be more happy to be a part of it,” he told NL Sports.
Korte is the second prospect from the 2020 draft class to sign with the team, joining first round pick Kaden Hammell, a defenceman.
Really personable young prospect. Dad Roger has represented Saskatchewan at the Brier in 2000,2004 and 2010. #Kamloops https://t.co/AoNOE9hqGb
