B.C. Health Officials say there have been another 25 cases of COVID-19 reported the highest single day increase since May 8, for a provincial total of 3,053.
It is the fourth straight day where B.C. has seen an increase in new cases.
One of those new cases was in the Interior Health Authority which is now at 202 cases. The province notes 51 people who have tested positive in the province are cases of people who live outside Canada, meaning 3,002 British Columbians have come down with the virus.
“While there are no active community outbreaks in B.C., new cases and community exposure events continue to occur in the community,” Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said. “As we continue through summer, simple steps will help us to keep COVID-19 low and slow in British Columbia.”
There are now 187 active cases across B.C., which is 12 more than yesterday’s update. A further 16 people are in hospital with the virus, one down from yesterday, with five people are in intensive care, up one from yesterday.
There was also one new death in the Vancouver Coastal Health area, bringing B.C.’s total to 187.
Henry is asking people to continue to avoid closed spaces, crowds, and close contact with people not in your social bubble.
“We know that the more layers of protection we use, the safer we will be,” she said. “Let’s all ‘layer up’ by washing our hands regularly, using barriers, staying a safe distance from others and using a mask when that is challenging.”
“The actions you take every day make a difference and will help to protect all of us.”
In total, 2,679 people who tested positive – or almost 88 per cent – have since recovered.
