They are waiting it out and hoping to still have a soccer season this year.
The Kamloops Men’s Recreational Soccer League is confident they will be on the pitch playing league games at some point this summer. League President Rob Piva tells NL Sports they are waiting for the approval to go ahead and resume play, when it is safe to do so.
“We are waiting on Via Sport. We all want to play. We have time to make this happen,” he said. “All our members want to play. We are waiting to get the go-ahead.”
It’s unlike the Kamloops Women’s Soccer League which pulled the plug on their summer season back on June 17 due to the virus.
“We have 10 teams in the over 30 division, we have six teams in the over 45 division and then we have the young guys in the open division,” Piva added. “We have over 500 players. The young guys want to play. They are emailing me all the time when we can get back on the field. Unfortunately I can’t tell them.”
Piva adds they can easily play into October if they have to.
