A man has died after a mountain biking accident in the Batchelor Hills area of Kamloops yesterday.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Darryl Cooper says emergency crews were called to the Sidewinder Loop trail at 10:14 a.m.
He says a jogger had found the mountain biker, and that person was performing CPR when fire and ambulance crews arrived.
“He [the jogger] assisted with ventilation while we continued CPR. (Emergency Health Services) did their protocol. RCMP arrived, and then we put the patient in the bush truck and transferred them down to the ambulance from there,” Cooper says. He adds he wasn’t at the scene and couldn’t say if the mountain biker was pronounced dead at the scene or after he was taken by ambulance.
“Obviously quite tragic. I can say that the guys were saying he looked like a healthy, younger guy. Reports were saying he was 42 years old, but still pretty young, and a fit guy obviously out getting some exercise. But I don’t know what happened.”
The BC Coroners Service is now looking into the exact cause of death.
