The chair of the Kamloops-Thompson School District will be stepping down from the role on Monday.
Kathleen Karpuk has been the board chair since November 2018, but she will continue on as a trustree.
“I’ve accepted a full time position with BC Wildfire and the position of chair does require a lot of time and I don’t feel that I can devote that time to the position anymore,” she told NL News. “So in the best interest of the board and the district, I am stepping aside.”
Re-elected as chair in 2019, Karpuk has been a school trustee since 2008. She will continue to serve in that role until at least the next election in October 2022.
“It’s been a very interesting past few months certainly,” Karpuk added. “We started off in September with losing a school and then we moved into COVID, so its been a challenging time, but I think the board has done some good work around that.”
School District 73 will be holding a special meeting on Monday to elect a new chair.
