The province is reporting 81 new cases of COVID-19 from the past three days, including 34 new cases in the Interior Health region, bringing the total to 353 cases.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 36 of the cases were from Friday to Saturday, 21 were from Saturday to Sunday, and 24 cases from Sunday to Monday, taking B.C.’s COVID-19 case count to an even 3,500.
She says there are 1,010 people self-isolating across B.C. after being exposed to COVID-19.
“If you have been told to self-isolate, this is not optional,” she noted. “This is a requirement. This is what you need to do now for the duration of the incubation period from when you were exposed to ensure that if you develop symptoms, you’re not going to pass it on to others – particularly those that you’re closest to.”
There were also two new deaths from the virus – both at long-term care homes, bringing the death toll to 193.
There were no new healthcare outbreaks, however, there was an outbreak at Fraser Valley Packers in Abbotsford. Henry also noted the outbreak on Haida Gwaii has grown by one to 14 confirmed cases.
Henry also confirmed that the number of guests allowed at cabins, house boats and AirBnB’s will be limited to the capacity of the space plus a maximum of five visitors. Its after she announced last week that tighter restrictions on vacation rentals were coming.
In a statement, Interior Health says there were four new cases in Interior Health residents linked to the growing Kelowna cluster of cases, which is now at 90. Of that, 78 cases are Interior Health residents, while the other 12 are spread out between Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health.
Active cases were down by 30 from Friday to 264 active cases, with 11 people in hospital, of which three are in critical care or ICUs. Henry added there are now 3,043 people who have fully recovered from the virus.
