B.C. health officials are announcing 23 new cases of COVID-19 today, for a provincial total of 3,523 in the province since the pandemic began.
Five of those cases were in Interior Health, which has now reported 358 cases. There was also one new death in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, bringing the provincial death toll to 194 people.
“There continues to be additional community exposure events throughout the province,” said a statement from the Health Ministry. “Let’s make sure COVID-19 doesn’t take our summer away by taking steps to bend our curve back down, this weekend and every weekend.”
Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said yesterday that some people from Alberta brought COVID-19 with them to British Columbia, and she’s asking people to bring their travel manners with them instead.
Active cases continued on a downward trend to 253, from 264 yesterday. There are now nine people in hospital, down two from yesterday, with three people still in intensive care.
There were also no new healthcare or community outbreaks, with health officials noting they’re supporting active outbreaks on Haida Gwaii and at Fraser Valley Packers in Abbotsford. As it stands, there is one long-term care facility and two acute-care facilities with active outbreaks.
The province yesterday brought in a new public health order restricting the number of people allowed in vacation rentals to the capacity of the facility plus a maximum of five visitors.
As well, there are now 3,076 people who are considered to have fully recovered in B.C., up from 3,043 yesterday.
