There were no injuries after Kamloops firefighters were called out to three house fires on in Rayleigh this afternoon.
Two of the fires were in the 4000-block of Aspen Park Drive. Firefighters say one house was fully engulfed and the fire spread to a neighbouring house around 2:20 p.m.
Around that same time, there was another fire at a house in the 300-block of Reighmount Drive, reported just after 3 pm.
Jake St. Germain lives on Reighmount and tells NL News the whole situation is crazy.
“I saw some smoke and then heard kind of a big kaboom, and I went down the road, and there was houses going up, and then all of a sudden, the truck blew up and then it started spreading over to the neighbours house,” he said.
“I was like, ‘are the neighbours home?’ but I guess they weren’t, so I went into the backyard and chased the dog out.”
KFR says they were able to contain the fires and prevent it from spreading any further spread, and they’re working to extinguish the fires.
“Crazy. Crazy. This never happens in Rayleigh. Never,” St. Germain added. “It’s a community of peace and quiet. Definitely the whole community gets out when you see something like this for sure.”
Assistant Fire Chief Robb Schoular says its far too early to say what a cause might be for the fires.
“Thankfully nobody hurt or injured. We managed to bring Willow out of the house, that’s the dog. There were reports of two dogs in the initial fire call, one dog was safely taken out, we’re not sure the status of the other dog unfortunately.”
In a tweet, the city of Kamloops later said that other dog was found.
Schoular says nothing to say if either of the fires suspicious or not.
“Don’t want to say its suspicious or not suspicious at this point. There are no indicators saying either. Its just too early to tell,” he added.
Kamloops RCMP say all of the occupants related to both locations have been accounted for, and its not clear just yet if the fires are related.
RCMP are asking that the public avoid the area as the investigation unfolds.
People are are being asked to avoid the area and residents are being told to obey all crews on site.
