It’s been hot in Kamloops over the last few weeks, but expect a change in the weather tomorrow.
Environment Canada is calling for a high of just 23 degrees along with a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.
“We’ll have to watch closely how things progress tomorrow because after tomorrow we get into more of like not as a hot pattern as we have seen,” Forecaster Bobby Sekhon told NL News. “Then we’re not going to expect as explosive thunderstorms for later on.”
“The most dangerous scenario is when we have a long stretch of hot, dry weather, all that energy is in the atmosphere and then a trough comes by to release that energy in the form of sometimes severe thunderstorms.”
Heat and lightning over the BC Day long weekend led to a rise in wildfires in the province, the vast majority of which were in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
The most significant fire in the province right now is the Dry Lake fire, northwest of Princeton. The BC Wildfire Service says it is currently being held at about 21 hectares in size, after crews made ‘good progress’ yesterday.
Across B.C., there have been 356 fires so far this season which has burned 796 hectares. Thirty-four fires remain active.
