The mayor of Sun Peaks is calling on his community to increase the use of masks.
Al Raine says it has had a couple of positive COVID-19 tests recently and it’s asking community members to take the extra step to keep themselves and others safe.
“I’m not making the call on these types of issues, but the medical team, the doctor we have here, along with the director at the health centre have been suggesting that masks might be a good idea for our community.”
“And I will say that at least 50% of the staff here in the resort were already putting masks on at work. So just a question of saying ‘hey it’s happening and it’s probably a good idea for everyone’.”
“We saw that Banff had mandated masks for I think buildings and their main street. And then we had a couple of positive tests by community members and at that point we said ‘hey, we should probably err on the side of caution’.”
Raine says about 20 per cent guests were wearing masks over the BC Day long weekend.
