Starting on Wednesday morning, the parkade on Lansdowne Street in downtown Kamloops will be closed for the rest of the month for renovations.
The City of Kamloops has just replaced the concrete membrane in the Seymour Street parkade, and will be doing the same work on Lansdowne.
Capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says the work took about a week longer than anticipated on Seymour.
“There were a few more repairs. It is an aging parkade, and we had a few structural repairs. A bit more than anticipated. Didn’t impact the schedule too much, but yes, now moving onto Lansdowne.”
The Seymour Street parkade will be back open at 7 a.m. tomorrow. People can also park for free at six city-owned parking lots: at 300 St. Paul Street, at 400 Lorne Street and 500 Lorne Street, and also at the Heritage House, Sandman Centre and Riverside Park.
Crundwell says the goal is still to be done at the Lansdowne parkade by August 31, before off-street parking fees in downtown Kamloops are brought back on Sept. 7.
The budget for replacing the concrete membranes of both parkades is $450,000.
“We’re also anticipating Landowne, we know is in better shape, and we’re not expected as much work there so it may be a wash in the end,” Crundwell says.
Bylaw staff also say that the city stands to lose $23,250 this summer from the parkades being closed for renovations.
