The CEO of Tourism Kamloops says it continues to market the city to B.C. residents only encouraging them to travel within the province.
Beverley DeSantis says that continues to be the case despite significant challenges with revenue for the non-profit.
“We’re taking our cues from the government and Dr. Bonnie Henry, who is still only encouraging travel within your province, and so that’s how we’re managing. And we’re failing badly, because Alberta is coming in droves.”
That said, DeSantis says she hopes that people in the region are friendly and welcoming to everyone who enters B.C., regardless of what the reason might be.
“I hope that we’re being friendly and welcoming to everybody who enters our province, and that they can feel safe here. But our marketing activities have not been intentional to attract those visitors.”
Several incidents of harassment and vandalism against Albertan vehicles in the Kamloops area have been accused of being linked to inter-provincial travel. However there has been no firm evidence to support that.
