
Another hot day in the Okanagan as more temperature records for August 17 were set in a trio of communities – Penticton, Summerland, and Kelowna.
Kelowna was by far the hottest of the three communities at 38.4 C, breaking the old high of 36.1 C set in 1967, with records going back to 1899.
Summerland was not that far behind as it hit 38.3 C, breaking the old record of 35.6 C set in 1917. In Penticton, it got to 37.4 C, breaking the 35.6 C record set in 1917 as well. Records for both Penticton and Summerland go back to 1907.
Records were also set in Nelson, Port Hardy, and Trail where it got to 39.7 C, breaking the old record of 38.9 C set in 1967, with records going back to 1928.
For the second straight day, Kamloops came close to a record as it got to 37.6 C, just shy of the 37.8 C record set in 1967 as well.
Environment Canada has lifted the heat warning for most of the Kamloops area with temperatures now expected to cool off to more seasonal levels heading towards the weekend. However, the heat warning remains in place for the Lytton area
