
UPDATE 2:45 pm – Police say the standoff at a house on Shuswap Road ended peacefully as a 29-year-old Kamloops man was taken into custody just before 1 p.m., about four hours after the incident began.
“Following negotiations with the man, and the police tactics used, he presented himself peacefully at the front door of the home where he was safely taken into custody with the support of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said.
He says the man is facing a number of potential criminal charges related to this morning’s incident.
“RCMP extends its thanks to all those, who were impacted by the dynamic and unfolding situation, for their patience and unwavering understanding,” he added.
In a facebook post just after 2 p.m., the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc say the road has reopened to traffic.
ORIGINAL – The RCMP say a police incident is currently underway at a home in the 700-block of Shuswap Road, and people are being asked to stay away at this time.
Southeast District Spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says officers are continuing to negotiate with a distraught man inside the house. He says a number of people were able to leave the home safely around 9 a.m. this morning.
“Front line officers have established a perimeter around the home as police continue their efforts to make contact, communicate and negotiate with the man,” O’Donaghey noted. “The BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team along with specially trained crisis negotiators, have been called to the scene to assist.”
He says police will have an update on the situation as it becomes available.
