Police in the North Okanagan say the parent of a young child found wandering along Chase-Falkland Road on Wednesday afternoon has been located.
Cpl. Tania Finn says two frontline officers from the Vernon-North Okanagan detachment canvassed the area around 12:30 p.m., after police were told about the unattended child.
The BC Ambulance Service was called to conduct a medical assessment of both the child and parent, but a spokesperson says no one had to be taken to hospital. The Ministry of Children and Family Development has also been notified of the incident.
“My mother in law passed when people where with the girl (completely naked and sun burned) they where looking for the parents but ended up dropping her off at the police station because they couldn’t find anyone,” said a post on a Falkland BC facebook group, noting the child was spotted in the Joyce Lake area, north of Falkland.
“She is with child services at the police station, I just dropped off some items for her, she is not speaking, but she is being fed and hydrated,” another post said.
The child could have been as young as two years old according to posts on social media, but there is no update from police on the child’s condition just yet.
