Police in Chase are investigating two incidents in the Scotch Creek and Lee Creek areas that may be connected.
Sgt. Barry Kennedy says police were told about reports that a man was shot around 3:00 a.m this morning near the Squilax-Anglemont Road. He wasn’t at the scene but was found shortly after by police and taken to hospital, with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
“A suspect has been identified and although no arrests have been made, Chase RCMP would like to reassure the public that they do not believe this was a random incident,” Kennedy said. “Our investigators have reason to believe that the suspect and the victim were known to each other, therefore the public is not at risk.”
He says while police were investigating the shooting, police were called to a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a white Ford Explorer, which fled the scene. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.
“Investigators believe this vehicle should have extensive damage to its front end, which likely would have prevented it from being driven very far from the scene,” Kennedy noted, adding the investigation is being supported by Southeast District Central Interior Traffic Services.
Kennedy says police have not been able to find that second vehicle despite both ground and air crews looking for it. He says they have not yet ruled out the possibility that these two incidents are related.
