The city of Kamloops wants to raise the trail at Riverside Park to prevent flooding of a major sewer station but one city councillor is wondering if the project isn’t a bit too much.
The $1.5-million project could potentially be paid for completely through grants, as there is already $800,000 in grant funding that has been secured. An application is now in for another $750,000.
“I think it’s a bit overkill in the sense that we’re going to have to change the look of the park because by raising the River’s Trail at least two feet to try to prevent any flooding in the park, where I think you can do that for a fraction of the cost because there’s only five of ten of the manholes that need to be secured from flooding,” he said.
“I had an issue with that one because it’s going to change the feel of the park to raise that river’s trail and they’ll have to have railings on it because people will fall off two feet. So, do we need to go that far? And again it’s another grant of $700,000, we already have $800,000 so that’s the only thing is whether we needed to go the Cadillac model.”
Mayor Ken Christian is behind the idea telling NL News it’s “money well spent and will help the city protect critical infrastructure.”
