The Kamloops Accommodation Association a lot of inter-provincial business travel is starting to resume, which is good news for hotel stays.
President Tyson Andrykew says in normal times, the majority of hotel stays in Kamloops are business-related.
“That’s a major driver, when we talk about the visitor economy and travellers, it’s not just people on leisure vacations. A lot of the hotel stays in Kamloops are business related,” Andrykew says.
“We’ve got a lot of provincial government offices here, a lot of different industries where we’ve got a pretty good economy locally, under normal circumstances. That’s the main driver for the hotels here. I think when you look at leisure traffic, I do believe Tourism Kamloops is doing well with their creative campaign.”
Andrykew says attracting people from around the Interior and the Lower Mainland is a great place to focus right now as the pandemic continues to be a threat.
Many Kamloops hotels are operating at about half-capacity and have had to lower prices to be competitive during the summer.
