About $840,000 cash was seized from a semi-truck in Kamloops recently, and charges are expected to be laid against the driver.
RCMP Traffic Services Cpl. Mike Halskov says the seizure happened after the truck was pulled over on Highway 1 east of downtown for a traffic infraction.
Halskov says the officer became suspicious after checking the driver’s log book, and because the driver refused to open the trailer.
A police dog was brought in and it indicated the smell of drugs. Mounties seized $840,500 cash but did not find drugs.
The truck driver is a man in his fifties from Surrey, and a charge of possession of the proceeds of crime is pending. The truck and trailer were also seized at the scene.
Halskov tells NL News that it’s believed the truck had come back into B.C. from Alberta.
“This incident demonstrates how a vehicle stop for a seemingly minor offence can quickly turn into an investigation resulting in a significant seizure of contraband and serious criminal charges,” he says.
The incident happened on July 26, nearly a month ago, just after midnight, but RCMP only shared the news this morning.
