The province has announced 269 new cases of COVID-19 in the past three days.
That includes 109 on Saturday, which is the largest one-day case count in B.C. since the pandemic started.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the good news is the test-positive rate for the virus is still relatively low, as daily tests in B.C. have reached more than 4,000 per day.
“Despite the recent outbreaks and clusters that we have seen in the past week and the rise in case numbers, we still have low undetected transmission in our province. We are able to find and connect most people who have this disease,” Henry says.
“But we want to keep it that way. We need to keep it that way, as our summer continues and we look to the fall. It’s about finding that balance, being able to live with this virus but ensure that we’re doing what we can to keep our society, our medical system, and our economy going.”
Only eight of those 269 new cases are in Interior Health.
Province-wide, there are now 913 active cases of the virus, which is an increase of 89 active cases from Friday. And 2,594 people in isolation because they may have been directly exposed.
There are 18 people in hospital with the virus, which is an increase of five from Friday. There are five people in critical care which is unchanged from three days ago.
There was also one new death reported today from the virus, and the death toll in B.C. is now 203.
