A Kamloops woman is among six Public Safety Lifeline volunteers in B.C. who are being recognized for their contributions to emergency and disaster response throughout the province.
Roline Sims took home the award in the Emergency Support Services (ESS) category. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says she has spent more than 25 years as a dedicated ESS volunteer.
The awards are meant to honour Public Safety Lifeline volunteers who conduct air and ground search and rescue, help extricate victims trapped by serious motor vehicle accidents, set up communication networks and co-ordinate services for victims of natural disasters.
Other winners include Ed Ehrler of Sparwood in the Search and Rescue category, Les Dawes of Shawnigan Lake for Radio Communications, Smithers’ Lynn van Cadsand for PEP Air, Don Hunt of Kalso for Road Rescue and Judy Hagen from Heriot Bay, who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The awards are usually handed out in April during National Volunteer Week in April, but this year’s celebrations will be virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
