The former Canfor mill site in Vavenby has reportedly sold to a new developer.
That’s according to Vavenby area director Carol Schaffer, who says she was informed of that news on Wednesday.
She says any sale of that property will have a covenant that the buyer can’t open a sawmill, but she says it could have a similar usage in the wood industry.
“A pellet plant can go in there, a chip plant can go in there. Anything can go in there except a sawmill. We just have to come up with a manufacturing plant of some sort. They just have to come up with something that will be profitable for the Vavenby area. For them, and for the area.”
The mill property on McCorvie Road is valued at $1.93 million. Its value dropped by 54 per cent after Canfor moved its equipment off-site last year.
