A Merritt-based firefighter who’s truck was stolen from a Merritt parking lot last Friday morning while he was battling the Christie Mountain wildfire near Penticton says his vehicle has been found.
Connor Callaghan, who is from Kelowna, says he doesn’t know what condition his 2003 navy blue Toyota Tundra is in, but he’s happy to have it back soon.
“The RCMP in Kamloops yesterday contacted me saying they had recovered the truck with the driver in it. That’s basically all the information they gave me right now,” he told NL News. “They told me they kind of have to carry out their own investigation before any other updates or whatever, but yeah, I’m pretty excited and now hopeful to see my truck returned.”
The truck was spotted in Kamloops on Monday night, but police weren’t able to locate it.
“I think the first lead in Kamloops was just by someone I had never met who messaged me on facebook and they had seen it in the news, so I like really only have that to thank, I think,” he added.
“Really don’t know anything about the condition of it or if any of the contents are there at this point. I’m kind of looking forward to hearing from the police on that sort of thing.”
Callaghan was on last firefighting shift of the summer when the truck was stolen. He is now preparing for his final year of his mechanical engineering degree at UBC Okanagan.
