
British Columbia health officials are reporting 104 new cases of COVID-19 today, the fourth time in the last week that there have been more than 100 new COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period.
Six of today’s cases were epi-linked for a total of 5,952 cases of the virus so far.
There were five new cases reported in the Interior Health Authority which has now seen 445 cases of COVID-19. Active cases were up by three to 1,127, with 33 people now in hospital, of which 14 are in intensive care. Hospital numbers are the highest it has been at since May 31, while ICU numbers are the highest since May 13.
Ninety two of today’s cases were in the Lower Mainland, as health officials say there are now 2,786 people who are being active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, and 4,605 people who tested positive have recovered.
There were no new COVID-19 related deaths as the death toll remains at 209 people.
Health officials also confirmed at outbreak at the Surrey Memorial Hospital, while noting the outbreak at the Langley Memorial Hospital is over.
“We need to redouble our efforts to ensure our layers of protection are always part of our daily routines – for everyone in our family. This will allow us to push our curve down once again,” said a statement from the Health Ministry.
There are now 4,605 people – about 77 per cent – now considered to have recovered from the virus.
Earlier today, the city of Kamloops also confirmed that a senior staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
