Kamloops staff say ripping up one of the city’s busiest intersections yesterday went as smooth as it could’ve.
The paving project started yesterday at Third Avenue and Columbia Street.
Streets manager Glen Farrow says milling happened yesterday and the road will be re-paved on Saturday.
“We came up with those two dates based on the schedule at St. Annes, they are back at school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So it is still a construction site, we are still doing minor works through that corridor. But definitely not the impacts that you would see compared to when we mill and when we pave.”
He says one complaint came in to the city’s switchboard during the morning commute.
“There were some challenges and delays and impacts with transit, in that early morning rush hour with traffic heading eastbound. Overall though, the crews worked very hard there and were able to get off that main arterial as quickly as we could.”
After Saturday, road lines will be re-painted. The project will be completely done on Sept. 18.
Farrow also points out the city has a traffic cam at that intersection, and he suggests people check that if they have concerns about potential holdups during construction. That traffic cam can be found here.
