The province is now forecasting a deficit of just under $12.8 billion in this year’s budget.
That’s slightly worse than the deficit forecast two months ago, of $12.5 billion.
Finance Minister Carole James says projected revenues have dropped by $4.5 billion, and spending has risen by nearly $7.8 billion.
“The province’s revenue forecast has declined, though less than we anticipated in the July scenario. And the additional investments we’re making in COVID-19 relief measures through critical health, social services and immediate financial relief, are letting us help people and businesses quickly.”
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the B.C. government was expecting a surplus of $227 million dollars for this fiscal year.
More to come.
