The Executive Director of Downtown Kamloops says its possible that the month long Taste of Downtown event will return in future years.
Carl DeSantis says the extended event because of the COVID-19 pandemic was well received.
“What we learned this year based on the feedback from the community and from the restaurants is that the month that the program continued gave visitors – our guests to downtown – sufficient time that they could try out not just one or two of their favourties, but many of the restaurants downtown,” he said.
“In years past, the event was scheduled on a single day over several hours where we invited people downtown to eat lots in a short period of time, and they perhaps did not gain a true appreciation for all of the restaurants.”
There were 22 restaurants that took part this year. DeSantis admits it was tough to ask restaurants to participate because of the financial challenges brought on by COVID-19, but he is pleased with how things turned out.
“To get the numbers of restaurants participating this year that we did, that was fantastic,” DeSantis added. “Can we look forward to more next year? I would hope so and I’m completely optimistic and it looks like there is full support to extend the program going forward.”
Proceeds from this event will go to the Kamloops Food Bank and Downtown Kamloops Artisans Alive Music Program.
