The City of Kamloops and the Village of Ashcroft were honoured at the UBCM Community Excellence Awards during the ongoing 2020 convention.
Kamloops won the award for Excellence in Governance by adopting a ‘Let’s Talk’ Commitment Guides for engagement with citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. The city of Burnaby got an honourable mention in that category.
The Excellence in Governance Award is given to a municipality that support and encourage citizen participation in an efficient, equitable, inclusive and transparent way while exemplifying best practices in accountability, effectiveness, and long-term thinking.
Meanwhile, the village of Ashcroft got an honourable mention in the Excellence in Asset Management category for its ‘Small Municipality Focused Asset Management’. The award went to the Town of Gibsons.
That particular award is given to a municipality which develops comprehensive, integrated, innovative and effective approaches to the way new and existing infrastructure is managed.
The Community Excellence Awards – which have been handed out since 2004 – are meant to showcase municipalities and regional districts that have implemented projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government in the province.
