B.C. health officials are reporting 91 new COVID-19 cases today- five of which were epi-linked – for a total of 8,395 cases in the province.
It is the second straight day where cases have been below the 100 mark. In the Interior there were four new cases taking the total to 515 cases – with 31 active cases and no one in hospital in the Interior with the virus.
There was a further decrease in active cases to 1,376 across B.C., with 3,368 people being actively monitored by public health teams as a result of identified exposure to a known cases – an increase from 3,314 people yesterday.
There were no new deaths with the death toll remaining at 227 people. Currently, there are 62 people in hospital with COVID-19, of which 18 are in intensive care.
“New cases and clusters of COVID-19 remain higher than where we would like them to be,” said a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
“The impact of this means that thousands of people in B.C. are now under active public health monitoring and care, with many forced to deal with the stress and anxiety that comes with having to self-isolate away from work, friends and family.”
The number of people considered to have recovered from COVID-19 is up significantly to 6,769 – about 80 per cent of the total cases.
“We want to ensure we are in the best position possible to protect our communities and keep as much as is safe open and operating during the pandemic,” Henry added. “To do this, we need everyone to do their part today to help push our curve back down tomorrow.”
