Thirteen mayors in B.C., including the mayor of Kamloops, have tabled a list of priorities for political parties, ahead of the upcoming election.
The non-partisan Urban Mayors’ Caucus is calling on government to address mental health and addictions, affordable housing, transit and the “fiscal relationship” between municipalities and the province.
Victoria mayor Lisa Helps co-chairs the caucus, and says the hope is all of those big-ticket items end up in party platforms.
“We’ve come together as mayors not out of frustration but out of a great sense of hope and optimism for what our cities can contribute to a provincial recovery, and much beyond that. So we’re using this opportunity to the best of our ability.”
Kamloops mayor Ken Christian says that list of priorities was delivered on Tuesday to the leaders of the BC NDP, the BC Liberals and the BC Greens.
