B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating the actions of RCMP officers in Chase after a young woman was seriously injured last Friday.
Police say they were called around 12:05 p.m. on Oct. 2 after they were told about a woman wearing a black sweater and dark stretchy jeans who had jumped in front of a vehicle on Pine Street in Chase before walking away.
The Independent Investigations Office says an RCMP officer was able to find and speak to a woman who matched the description given by a witness to the incident.
A few minutes later, the RCMP say they got another call about a young woman who had reportedly jumped from the Pine Street Bridge in Chase. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“It was quickly determined that this was the same young woman the officer had recently spoken to,” the IIO BC said in a statement.
The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, that RCMP action or inaction may have had that led to the woman seriously injuring herself.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
