A 47 year old Merritt woman was arrested and then released after she disrupted construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project near the Coquihalla Summit.
Hope RCMP say on Sept. 30, they responded to a report of a woman who had parked her vehicle in a way that obstructed Trans Mountain workers near Falls Lake Road.
“Private security staff on site informed the woman that her actions constituted a breach of a Supreme Court injunction and provided her a copy of the court order,” said a statement from Cst. Mike Rail with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment,
“Upon police attendance, the woman declined an opportunity to leave and was arrested…[and] released from custody on scene.”
He says police will be forwarding all information to the B.C. Prosecution Service which will determine if charges will be laid.
“The RCMP remind citizens that they have the right to lawful, peaceful and safe protest and the companies have a right to complete their work,” Rail added. “RCMP are working hard at ensuring that these rights are respected and everyone is kept safe.”
