B.C.’s top doctor is again asking people to get a flu shot to keep themselves save during the upcoming flu season.
Dr. Bonnie Henry says the province is starting to get its supply of the vaccine, and health authorities have begun distributing it all over British Columbia.
“I want to reassure everybody that we have sufficient vaccine supplies. There have been no problems that we’ve identified with the supply that’s coming in. The supply chains are strong and there’s been no delays in the manufacture of the vaccine this year so that is good news for all of us.”
Henry says the optimal time for people to be immunized is in the coming weeks.
“So if it takes a week or two to get an appointment with your pharmacist or your physician or at your public health clinic, the best time to do it is the end of October and into November, and that is where we get the maximum protection through influenza season.,” she added.
Last month, the province announced it has bought nearly two million doses of the flu vaccine as part of an enhanced fall flu immunization campaign this year.
“The influenza rates so far have been very low in our communities, so we’re not yet into that season, so we have time to make sure that everybody who wants it can be immunized in the next few weeks,” noted Henry.
“Everyone in B.C. has a role to play in our COVID-19 response. Through simple steps, like washing our hands regularly and getting our influenza vaccine, we can all make a difference.”
